OpenAI is reshaping its financial future, telling investors it plans to cut the revenue share with Microsoft by more than half by 2030, The Information reports. Under the existing agreement, Microsoft was set to receive 20% of OpenAI’s revenue until the end of the decade. However, the revised projection indicates that the number could shrink to just 10%, signaling a pivot in OpenAI’s strategy as it reins in broader restructuring plans.
This recalibration also suggests a curtailment of CEO Sam Altman’s influence, with OpenAI’s nonprofit parent keeping a firm grip on governance. Despite changes, OpenAI emphasized that it remains committed to its collaboration with Microsoft, which maintains its own AI infrastructure ambitions—partnering with Oracle and SoftBank to develop massive U.S.-based AI data centers.
The tech duo reaffirmed that key elements of their partnership are intact through 2030, even as the financial terms evolve.
